Staff Sgt. Terry Hicks, a Marine recovering with the Wounded Warrior Battalion West-Detachment Hawaii and a Washington, D.C., native, speaks with Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a congresswoman with the 2nd Congressional District of Hawaii, at the Wounded Warrior Detachment, Aug. 4, 2015. Gabbard, a Leloaloa, American Samoa, native, said the purpose of her visit was to spend time with the wounded warriors and base leadership, giving her the chance to extend her gratitude to them and, upon leaving, be able to better tell the Marines’ story and advocate for the base. Community visits such as this help support the mission of Marine Corps Base Hawaii, which is to provide facilities, programs and services in direct support of units, individuals and families in order to enhance and sustain combat readiness for all operating forces and tenant organizations aboard the installation.
