Lt. Gen. David H. Berger, commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force, addresses Phoenix media outlets with Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton during a Marine Week Phoenix press conference at Phoenix City Hall, Aug. 12, 2015. Marine Week Phoenix is a community relations event that will be held in Phoenix, Sept. 10-13. “Currently there are more than 4,750 Arizonans serving on active duty in the Marine Corps from the great state of Arizona,” said Berger. “These four days are our opportunity to share our heritage, our history, and traditions of the Marine Corps with the great patriots of Phoenix.” Marine Week Phoenix will provide Arizonans an opportunity to interact and become acquainted with the Marine Corps as America's expeditionary force in readiness. During the event, citizens will have the opportunity to view state-of-the-art static aircraft and ground equipment displays, military technology, combat weaponry and the Marine Corps Band. Marines will support community service projects and conduct a variety of demonstrations, including the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program and a simulated full-scale combat scenario. Marine Week was launched in 2009 in Chicago and has since been taken to Boston, St. Louis, Cleveland, and Seattle. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Tyler J. Bolken)
