Recruits of Golf Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, shed gear underwater during basic water survival training Aug. 24, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. Water survival qualification, one of seven graduation requirements, also includes swimming 25 meters, leaping from a 10-foot tower, treading water for four minutes and quickly shedding combat equipment while underwater. Golf Company is scheduled to graduate Oct. 23, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
