Air Force Maj. J. D. Loftis, a public information officer with Task Force Zabul's Provincial Reconstruction team, meets with Mohammad Ashraf Nasari, the governor of Zabul province. Maj. Loftis is fluent in Pashto, the dominate language of the province, and can easily participate in government meetings with village elders to help resolve local disputes. Gov. Nasari says Maj. Loftis is so successful at interacting with Afghans because they're more inclined to open up to him once they find out he can speak their language.
