Cpl. Erik S. Duke, 23, from San Antonio, a machinist with 1st Maintenance Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, counters a round punch and prepares to do some damage to his sparring partner during the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program 'Train the Trainer' course at 1st Maintenance Battalion MCMAP warehouse, Las Pulgas, Oct. 23. The course focuses on strengthening Marines not only physically but also mentally. Safety is a big part of the training. Instructors remind their trainees constantly not to get hurt throughout the course. Marines can work through an injury, but they can't work through being hurt. The purpose of the training is to help non-commissioned officers prepare their units to be combat ready once they become instructors.
