150918-N-PN275-004 U.S. NAVAL BASE GUAM (Sept. 18, 2015) Capt. Mark A. Prokopius, commanding officer of submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39), presents Master Chief Logistics Specialist (SS) Christopher Martin with a certificate for earning his Enlisted Surface Warfare (ESWS) qualification. Sailors spend a significant time working and studying to complete ESWS and upon completetion have an extensive level of knowledge about shipboard departments, capabilities, damage control, force protection, supply, U.S. Naval Heritage and engineering. Emory S. Land is a forward-deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility.
