150924-N-PN275-036 APRA HARBOR, Guam (Sept. 24, 2015) – Los Angeles class fast-attack submarine USS City of Corpus Christi (SSN 705) maneuvers into position to moor alongside submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) to complete repair maintenance actions. U.S. Submarine Force Pacific Fleet (SUBPAC) relies on Naval Base Guam as a vital operational transit point for submarine maintenance and support during deployments within the 7th Fleet area of operations. SUBPAC has instituted the Guam maintenance model to leverage Guam’s strategic location. This model coordinates the submarine tender schedules to ensure one tender remains in Guam to provide service to submarines like City of Corpus Christi. SUBPAC has also launched the Go Guam! Campaign designed to highlight the valuable experiences submariners can gain from Guam-based assignments. Emory S. Land is a forward deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7thFleet area of responsibility.
