U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Sawyer J.Highley, a powerline mechanic with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 (VMFA-121), conducts preflight actions on an F-35B Lightning II aircraft in support of Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course (WTI) 1-16 at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz., Oct. 1, 2015. Newbold's flight was historic in nature since it marked the first WTI class to fully integrate F-35s into the course. WTI 1-16 is a seven week training event hosted by Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) cadre which emphasizes operation integration of the six functions of Marine Corps aviation in support of a Marine Air Ground Task Force. MAWTS-1 provides standardized advanced tactical training and certification of unit instructor qualifications to support Marine Aviation Training and Readiness and assists in developing and employing aviation weapons and tactics.
