Members of the U.S. Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, perform fast-paced, high-performance aerobatic maneuvers in their F/A-18 Hornets during the 2015 Kaneohe Bay Air Show and Open House aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Oct. 17, 2015. On November 8, 1986, the Blue Angels completed their 40th anniversary year when they unveiled the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet, the first dual-role fighter and attack aircraft, which still serves on the nation’s front lines of defense. Since their inception in 1946, the demonstration squadron has performed for more than 495 million fans worldwide. The mission of the Blue Angels is to showcase the pride and professionalism of the United States Navy and Marine Corps by inspiring a culture of excellence and service to country through flight demonstrations and community outreach.
