Okinawa residents motivate their respective sides to pull in unison during the Naha Giant Tug-of-War Festival Oct. 11 in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. The teams represented the Battle of the East and West Dynasties as they struggled for power. The East won the contest after pulling the rope 3.5 meters. Afterwards participants were allowed to take pieces of the rope home with them for good luck.
