Maj. Gen. Walter L. Miller Jr., commanding general of II Marine Expeditionary Force, observes as the 2nd Marine Division band plays during a change of command ceremony in which Miller assumed command from Maj. Gen. William D. Beydler at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Oct. 22, 2015. Beydler took command of II MEF in July of 2014 and immediately focused his attention on II MEF readiness to deploy, employ and redeploy forces in support of Geographic Combatant Commander requirements and the National Security Strategy. His force preservation and community outreach initiatives such as the new “Protect What You’ve Earned” campaign were designed to keep Marines prepared for the mission.
