Air Force Gen. Douglas Fraser, commander of U.S. Southern Command, meets with Joint Task Force Guantanamo troopers and families at the Seaside Galley aboard U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Nov. 26, 2009. Fraser, along with his wife, Rena, visited Joint Task Force Guantanamo to serve Thanksgiving dinner to troopers, accompanied by U.S. Southern Command senior enlisted advisor Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Louis Espinal and his wife, Marguerite, and U.S. Army South commander, Maj. Gen. Simeon Trombitas. JTF Guantanamo conducts safe, humane, legal and transparent care and custody of detainees, including those convicted by military commission and those ordered released by a court. The JTF conducts intelligence collection, analysis and dissemination for the protection of detainees and personnel working in JTF Guantanamo facilities and in support of the War on Terrorism. JTF Guantanamo provides support to the Office of Military Commissions, to law enforcement and to war crimes investigations. The JTF conducts planning for and, on order, responds to Caribbean mass migration operations.
