Staff Sgt. Mathew Walter, a Pre-Ranger course instructor with the Fort Bliss Iron Training Detachment, watches a Pre-Ranger candidate do pull-ups Nov. 2, during the Ranger Physical Fitness Assessment. The RPFA was the first test that aspiring Ranger School candidates faced during the 15-day Pre-Ranger course held here Nov. 2-20. The RPFA is similar to the Army Physical Fitness Test, but requires a five-mile run, and for candidates to complete six pull-ups. Thirty-one candidates began the course, which is a requirement to be considered for Ranger School.
