In 1990, Third Army was sent to the Middle East to command Army units in theater for Operation Desert Shield/Storm. USARCENT provided command and control, theater-level ADCON and sustainment for the two committed Army corps as well as overall land component planning responsibilities resulting in the liberation of Kuwait on Feb. 26, 1991. A company from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) marches across the apron to board the aircraft that will carry the unit to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Shield.
