Danny Barker (left), Vietnam veteran, Purple Heart recipient and guest speaker for the Ia Drang Memorial Run, gives remarks as Command Sgt. Maj. Andrew Barteky, 1st Cavalry Division’s outgoing command sergeant major, looks on prior to the start of the run at Fort Hood, Texas, Nov. 13, 2015. Barker spoke to troops about his encounter during the Vietnam War, and addressed Soldiers on the moment he called up for a MEDEVAC. He needed support from the Air Cav to get him and his troops out of the combat zone. This is the moment in which he was wounded by a booby trap, and he said he will never forget the pilot that brought the helicopter a foot off the ground to not set off any other bombs.
