160119-N-OI810-058 YOKOSUKA, Japan (Jan. 19, 2016) Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Equipment) Airman Matthew Bayne, from Lancaster, S.C., removes bolts from arresting gear impact pads on the flight deck of the U.S. Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Arresting gear impact pads protect the flight deck from the motion of the arresting cable during aircraft recovery. Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
