Lt. Gen. John Toolan, the commanding officer of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, and a Brooklyn, N.Y., native, kneels to honor one of the fallen Marines after the memorial service hosted by Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463, Jan. 22, 2016, aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii. On January 14, 2016, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Hawaiian Standard Time, two CH-53E Super Stallions from HMH-463 were involved in a mishap while conducting routine training approximately two miles off the northern coast of Oahu. The governor of the state of Hawaii has ordered that the flag of the United States and state of Hawaii be flown at half-staff for five days from sunrise on Friday, Jan. 22, to sunset on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016.
