SASEBO, Japan (Jan. 27, 2016) The Commander Fleet Activities Sasebo color guard renders honors during the playing of the American and Japanese national anthems before a ribbon-cutting ceremony at CFA Sasebo's Tategami Pier. The ceremony was held for the completion of a fiber-optic cable extension that would allow Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force vessels to participate in U.S. Fleet Synthetic Training. The training allows ships to simulate scenarios at sea while pierside, saving the operational cost of putting ships to sea. JMSDF Akizuki-class destroyer JS Akizuki (DD 115) is pierside.
