Soares, a welder with Support Company, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, heats up a Logistics Vehicle System mud flap frame at Camp Pendleton, Calif., Jan. 7. Soares, 19, from Portola, Calif., uses an oxy acetylene cutting torch to weaken and soften the metal so it can be bent to its original form and welded back onto the vehicle.
