The mine countermeasures ships USS Guardian and USS Defender are dressed out while moored abreast in Sasebo Harbor to honor the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security between the U.S. and Japan. Signed and ratified in 1960, the treaty serves as the foundation for the strong alliance and interoperability between the U.S. Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
