Sgt. Danilo Mendoza, biomedical science technician with the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research, explains the operation of the shock tube Feb. 24 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The shock tube is a piece of equipment designed to simulate exposure to explosions similar to the ones a Soldier may encounter while in combat. The data collected from the use of this device is crucial to the ocular research directorate, which focuses on research and advances in medicine aimed at helping Soldiers suffering from ocular related conditions.
