The competition originated in 1967 as a friendly match of skill and endurance between West Point's Corps of Cadets and their counterparts at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom. Overall the competition has expanded in both size and difficulty. What started as a 2-team competition in 1967 has expanded to 60 teams from 13 different countries.
