Staff Sgt. Michael Gingras was shot in the head while on patrol with the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division's 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment in Ghazaliyah. Gingras, who is from New London, Conn. - was saved when the bullet failed to fully penetrate the Army's new Advanced Combat Helmet that he was wearing.
