Clemson University Provost Bob Jones presents retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Gene Blackwell a certificate inducting him into the Clemson Reserve Officers' Training Corps Hall of Fame, April 14, 2016. LTG Blackwell commanded at every level from platoon to division and culminated his service as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans (now G3) of the US Army. During his service Blackwell was privileged to serve in every type of US Army division including light infantry, airborne infantry, motorized infantry, mechanized infantry and armor. LTG Blackwell is a highly decorated combat veteran with numerous awards including Silver Stars, eight Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He proudly served two tours in Vietnam and was a key commander in the 1991 liberation of Kuwait with the 3rd Armored Division. LTG Blackwell earned his Bachelor's, Master's and honorary Doctor of Law degrees from Clemson University. He has been recognized with the distinguished service award from Clemson and is the past president of the University's Foundation Board. Further, LTG Blackwell is a graduate of the Army War College and the USMC Command and Staff College. He will be in the first class inducted into the national ROTC Hall of Fame at Fort Knox, KY.
