Sgt. Maj. Harry Bennett, U.S. Army Reserve Command G-3/5/7 sergeant major; Hilda Griffin, Maj. Gen. Megan P. Tatu, U.S. Army Reserve chief of staff; Sgt. 1st Class James Kodes, and Nathan Galbreath, USARC G-4, cut the ceremonial birthday cake during the 108th birthday celebration of the U.S. Army Reserve, April 20, 2016, at the command's headquarters, Fort Bragg, N.C. The U.S. Army Reserve was founded April 23, 1908, when Congress authorized the Army to establish a Medical Reserve Corps, the official predecessor of the U.S. Army Reserve. Over the years, U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers have participated in every major military campaign to include; World War I, World War II, Korean War, Cold War, Desert Shield/Desert Storm and the Global War on Terrorism. Today, approximately 200,000 U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers serve around the globe.
