Staff Sgt. Matthew Carey, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group, is recognized with the Army Commendation Medal with V device during an award ceremony on April 29, 2016 in Tacoma, Washington. Staff Sgt. Carey distinguished himself heroically during combat action in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on January 4, 2016 by exposing himself to enemy direct and indirect fire to render life-saving medical aid to six wounded soldiers and evacuating casualties under fire.
