DIEGO GARCIA (May 3, 2016) - Equipment Operator Constructionman Chainephong Singsay, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 4, uses a sled to compact the dirt before laying pavement for the Gas Cylinder storage project in Diego Garcia, May 3. The compaction of dirt ensures a solid surface for the concrete slab that will be poured for a long lasting pad. Compaction prevents soft spots that can cause breaking or cracking in the concrete due to weight applied to the final product.
