The San Clemente loggerhead shrike is a subspecies found only on the island. The Institute for Wildlife Studies won a competition through the Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units Network to support recovery efforts. Another CESU partner, the San Diego Zoo, helps boost the island’s shrike population by running a captive breeding program. Photo credit: Institute for Wildlife Studies
