The ceremony brought Okinawa residents and Status of Forces Agreement members together to honor those whose lives were lost in the Battle of Okinawa. The memorial walls are inscribed with the more than 240,000 service members whose lives were lost in the Battle of Okinawa. During the memorial services, attendees stood for a moment of silence and honored those who gave their lives for their countries.
