    Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet

160720-N-ON468-097 MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII (July 20, 2016) Rick McMahon, left, speaks with Wing Commander Daniel Hunt of the Royal New Zealand Air Force's No. 5 Squadron at Marine Corps Base Hawaii during Rim of the Pacific 2016. McMahon's son David and friend Sydnie were involved in a small plane crash nine miles off the coast of the island of Kona, Hawaii July 15, and were rescued by a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew following an expansive joint search by U.S. Navy, Royal New Zealand Air Force, U.S. Air Force and Coast Guard crews after a 20-hour search. Twenty-six nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 30 to Aug. 4, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2016 is the 25th exercise in the series that began in 1971. (U.S. Navy Photo By Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Jeff Troutman /RELEASED)
