MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII-Sound & Sea Technology (SST), Technical Director, Dallas Meggitt, speaks at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (EXWC) Wave Energy Test Site (WETS) blessing ceremony, July 26. SST designed, assembled, and installed the terrestrial and marine infrastructure which comprises the WETS, a research and development endeavor with the objective of accelerating the evolution of wave energy conversion technologies by offering companies the hardware to test and demonstrate their respective WEC device technologies in an active, open water environment. The opportunity to test wave energy conversion (WEC) devices at WETS will allow the Navy/Marine Corps to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of various wave energy conversion configurations, which will in turn pave the way for the public/private sector’s use and benefit once these devices become mature.
