Malawi Defence Forces train for disaster relief during Southern Accord 2016's disaster relief tabletop exercise August 9, 2016 in Lilongwe, Malawi. Exercise trainees, working in clusters, practice logistics and transportation coordination in order to improve preparedness amidst recent climate concerns throughout the country. In 2015, Malawi experienced both flooding and drought, which left millions of residents displaced. The World Food Program estimates more than one in three people will be food insecure over the next nine months due to the famine. SA16 is a U.S. Army Africa-led annual, combined military exercise that brings together U.S. military personnel with African partner nations to improve readiness, promote interoperability, build capacity and strengthen partner relationships.
