Army Reserve drill sergeants from the 98th Training Division (IET) prepare to welcome new Soldiers arriving for their first day of Basic Combat Training, Aug. 19, on Fort Jackson, S.C. The reserve drill sergeants are currently fulfilling their 29-day annual training commitment with Company F, 1st Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment. Those drill sergeants along with their leadership and support personnel, charged with transforming civilians into Soldiers in just 10 short weeks, will rotate out with a fresh crop of reserve drill sergeants at the end of of phase one. This is typically known as an echo mission and is performed by reserve drill sergeants from the Army Reserve's 108th Training Command (Initial Entry Training) throughout the summer.
