160820-N-WA993-024 YOKOSUKA, Japan (Aug. 20, 2016) Electronics Technician 3rd Class Jessica Hancock, from Rutherfordton, North Carolina, climbs down a ladder after verifying frequency and power in the SPN-41 transmitter, while Electronics Technician 1st Class (SW/AW) Jason Smith, from Booneville, Mississippi, stands safety observer aboard the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). According to Hancock, she came in on her off day to help Reagan prepare for her deployment. The SPN-41 is a precision electronic approach and landing aid that provides shipboard guidance information to pilots landing on the flight deck. Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
