Lance Cpl. Jonathan N. Alphin inspects the arresting gear located on the main runway at Al Asad, Iraq, July 14. Alphin, an expeditionary airfield Marine, Marine Wing Support Squadron 274, Marine Wing Support Group 37, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, is responsible for maintaining the arresting gear, as well as assisting all aircraft that need to make emergency landings. The arresting gear is used when an aircraft has a malfunction that may cause them to overshoot the runway.
