ABOARD USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD-6), At Sea, (Aug. 26, 2016) – A CH-53E Super Stallion with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262, passes the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6), while in flight during normal flight operations while underway as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, Aug. 26, 2016. The CH-53E is the Marine Corps’ largest heavy-lift helicopter, and is ideal for sea-based aerial assault operations as part of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force.
The 31st MEU is the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed Marine Air-Ground Task Force, and combines air-ground-logistics into a single team capable of addressing a range of military operations in the Asia-Pacific region – from force projection and maritime security to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in cooperation with host countries and partner militaries.
