A recruit from Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, strikes a tire wheel during a modified bayonet assault course at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Aug. 23. Each set of tires simulates an enemy, giving the recruits an idea of what it would be like conducting hand to hand operations. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained MCRD San Diego. Charlie Company is scheduled to graduate Sept. 16.
