Brown, served in the U.S. Navy as a landsman during the Civil War and received the Medal of Honor for actions while serving aboard the USS Hartford on August 5, 1864, during the Battle of Mobile Bay. Navy Week Natchez, part of the city's year-long, tricentennial celebration, will showcase the U.S. Navy and give the local population a greater understanding of the capabilities of America's sea service.
