Marine Maj. Gen. Charles Chiarotti, US Forces, Japan commander, and Army Col. Cory Mendenhall, USFJ chief of staff, unfurl the new USFJ command flag at Yokota Air Base, Japan, Sept. 9, 2016, after the USFJ Command 5K Run. The new USFJ logo includes several elements that symbolize the enduring partnership between the U.S. and Japan. The national flags of both the U.S. and Japan are placed side-by-side near the top of the design. The U.S. flag represents over 106,000 service members, government employees, contractors, and family members who serve in Japan. The Japanese flag represents all of Japan, both the people of Japan and the Self-Defense Forces. The Torii gate and Mount Fuji are widely recognized as iconic symbols of Japanese culture.
