Soldiers of the North Carolina National Guard deployed Sept. 11, 2016, for multinational exercise “Fire Shield 2016”. The exercise, hosted by the Republic of Moldova Sept. 9-25, 2016, is an opportunity for NCNG Soldiers to develop relationships and improve capabilities with European partners. Here, NCNG Soldier, Sgt. 1st Class Kellen Van Able, far right, a platoon sergeant with B Co., 1st Battalion, 113th Field Artillery Regiment, offloads gear from a West Virginia Air National Guard C-17 at Chisinau, Moldova. Soldiers of the NCNG’s 113th FAR and 1st Battalion, 120th Infantry Regiment flew from Pope Army Airfield at Fort Bragg, N.C. via the C-17 to the republic.
