Junior officers from the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force and junior officers stationed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii participate in a U.S. Navy-Japanse Maritime Self-Defense Force Symposium in honor of the Japan-U.S. 50th anniversay of being allies on June 9, 2010. The Japanese junior officers are on a training mission in which they will visit 16 ports in 12 countries in a span of 156 days and Hawaii was their first stop on this trip. The symposium highlighted the bilateral alliance of the two countries and the key speaker was Adm. Gary Roughead, chief of naval operations.
