72nd IBCT and Iraq's Federal Police Team Up for Tactical Field Care Training in Baghdad

Soldiers with the 72nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team and members of Iraq's Federal Police participate in a course on tactical field care, learning the skills needed to become a Combat Life Saver. The students were taught various techniques to treat and stabilize injuries related to combat, to include blast injury, amputation, severe bleeding, penetrating chest injuries, simple airway management and evacuation techniques. With the watch words 'tourniquet, tourniquet, tourniquet' repeated over and over again, the instructor, Staff Sgt. Douglas Whitney, of the 72nd IBCT, Joint Area Support Group-Central, reiterated the importance of that simple tool to the class. Recent studies have shown that blood loss is the leading factor in loss of life on the battle field.
