U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Dennis Tippens, 116th Air Control Wing (ACW), 116th Civil Engineer Squadron (CES), Georgia Air National Guard, clears fallen trees from a roadway using a Kubota tractor during road-clearing operations in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, Savannah, Ga., Oct. 10, 2016. Citizen Airmen from the 116th ACW deployed to Savannah to support civil authorities while working along side the Chatham County Public Works department to assist in road clearing and debris cleanup operations. The 116th CES is a part of a select group of Air National Guard units across the nation that received two route clearance kits in 2013. The kits, consisting of multi-purpose Kubota tractors with buckets, grappling hooks and brooms, provides the unit the tools needed to respond to disasters quickly. Hurricane Matthew was the first real-life disaster where the unit used the route clearance kits successfully for their intended purpose. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Senior Master Sgt.
