SAN DIEGO (October 14, 2016) – Marines and Sailors of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit sand in formation aboard the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) before setting sail on their Western Pacific 16-2 deployment to the Pacific and Central Commands’ areas of responsibility. MEU’s are the Marine Corps’ smallest Marine Corps Air-Ground Taskforce and are comprised of four major elements: a ground combat element, air combat element, combat logistics element and the command element. The 11th MEU’s major subordinate units are Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 (Reinforced) and Combat Logistics Battalion 11.
