Currently deployed to Afghanistan in support of International Security Assistance Force operations, these Marines now call each other “brother” as members of Combat Logistics Battalion 6, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward). Their interactions with one another began, however, under much more chaotic circumstances. Gunnery Sgt. Arras Hattman (far left) trained Staff Sgt. Scott Hemenway while serving on the drill field aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. from 2001 to 2004, and subsequently trained Sgts. Jeremiah Rees in 2003 and Jeffrey Aaron in 2004. The legacy continued with Cpl. Erminio Pizza, who was trained by Hemenway during his own tour as a drill instructor from 2006 to 2009.
