CAMP ADAZI, Latvia – U.S. Army 1st Lt. Gabriel Lloyd (right), platoon leader, Chosen Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, joins representatives of NATO forces outside the Latvian War Museum in Riga, Latvia to light a fire honoring Lāčplēsis Day, Nov. 11, 2016. Paratroopers assigned to Chosen Co. provided a static display during the event honoring the day Latvian forces gained independence on Nov. 11, 1919, known as Bear Slayer Day. The “Sky Soldiers” of C Co., 2nd Bn., 503rd Inf. Regt., are on a training rotation in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, a U.S. led effort in Eastern Europe that demonstrates U.S. commitment to the collective security of NATO and dedication to enduring peace and stability in the region. The 173rd Airborne Brigade, based in Vicenza, Italy, is the Army Contingency Response Force in Europe, and is capable of projecting forces to conduct a full range of military operations across the United States European, Central and Africa Command areas of responsibility within 18 hours.
