TAPA, Estonia – Paratroopers assigned to Bastion Company, 54th Engineering Battalion (Airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade, conduct an explosive breach during team leader training at Tapa Training Area, Estonia, Nov. 17, 2016. The platoon-level, live-fire exercise sought to affirm each team leader’s capacity to tackle the complexities of a company-level Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise. An upcoming CALFEX will serve as the culminating event for the “Sky Soldiers” of 173rd Airborne Brigade on a training rotation in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, a U.S. led effort in Eastern Europe that demonstrates U.S. commitment to the collective security of NATO and dedication to enduring peace and stability in the region. The 173rd Airborne Brigade, based in Vicenza, Italy, is the Army Contingency Response Force in Europe, and is capable of projecting forces to conduct a full range of military operations across the United States European, Central and Africa Command areas of responsibility within 18 hours. The U.S. and partner nations conducted land, sea and air exercises and maintained a rotational presence in order to reinforce NATO security commitments in Europe. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt.
