RUKLA, Lithuania – The view from inside a sub-surface surveillance site. This site was built Nov. 16, 2016, by students attending the Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leader’s Course in Lithuania during their field training exercise. The surveillance site is designed to fit three men and their rucksacks at a time. One Soldier will watch the target, another one will record information in a surveillance log, while the third transmits the information to his fellow team mates who are located in a hide site a short distance away. The hide site feeds information to the unit’s higher headquarters to give commanders better intelligence preparation of the battlefield. The course is being hosted by 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade in Lithuania and features Paratroopers from their unit, as well as soldiers from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Slovenia. The U.S. and partner nations conducted land, sea and air exercises and maintained a rotational presence in order to reinforce NATO security commitments in Europe. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt.
