SALT LAKE CITY-- More than 100 Soldiers of the 96th Sustainment Brigade Group were honored during a Welcome Home Warrior-Citizen ceremony at Fort Douglas, Utah Nov. 6. The group returned from a nine-month deployment in the Middle East in support of Operation Inherent Resolve earlier this year.

Speaking in the ceremony were the 96th SB Commander, Col. Robert Moriarty and the 364th Sustainment Command Commander, Brig. Gen. Gregory Mosser. “The Army cannot predict the strategic future,” said Mosser. “But one thing you can know and predict is our readiness to face whatever the challenge,” he added.

One of those Army Reserve Soldiers who was ever-ready was Sgt. Jamaal Bolden of the 96th Sustainment Brigade Support Operations Section. Bolden was not originally set to deploy with the unit, but instead was asked to go forward after proving to be an effective and efficient team member during the unit’s pre-deployment training at home station and Fort Hood’s mobilization training center.

President George W. Bush and Congress created the Welcome Home Warrior-Citizen Award Program in 2004 to acknowledge service abroad by Soldiers in the Army Reserve, such as those with the 96th SB. The award consists of a personalized, encased American flag, a yellow Welcome Home Warrior-Citizen flag, an Army Reserve Soldier lapel set and a specially-designed commemorative coin.
