U.S. Army Private Edward Bloch, a survivor of the attack on Hickam Field, holds a wooden box given to him during the 75th Commemoration of the Dec. 7, 1941 attack on Hickam Field ceremony Dec. 7, 2016, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. Bloch was a switchboard operator in the control tower assigned to the 5th Bomb Group at Hickam Field. During the attack, he made eye contact with a Japanese aircraft gunner and recalls the Star Spangled Banner being played over the public announcement system between the two waves of attacks.
